• So my website has been up and running for about a year and gets +-100 visitors each month through Google. I’ve added sitemaps to index it in the Google web master tools.

But now I want to redesign it(starting over) and make new urls with new information to replace my existing ones so .com/aaa becomes .com/bbbb with new information or even .com/aaa stays aaa but with a different information

So can I just create new urls and upload a new site map to google web master tools or do I need to create redirects for the current url’s i don’t want to use any more?

  • I would upload the new sitemap, but also create 301 redirects for any users who may have bookmarked your old pages. Better to be redirected to a different page (with new, better information) than to end up at a 404 page.

Oke, so that’s the only thing I need to do to keep my website in it’s current google ranking?

Not really actually, is it spam or did you understand me wrong?

Whoops, sorry about that – I posted this in the wrong thread. I had multiple tabs open – and pasted this in the wrong tab.

    Again, sorry about that.
