Problem updating

I’m having a problem updating my wordpress. It is asking for my FTP and it’s not accepting the password I put in. I would rather just install the update but I don’t want to lose anything and I know how important it is to backup my files. I also haven’t used my website in a few years but pay for the update every month through GoDaddy. I’m curious what I can do to figure out the FTP and how to unzip a file on my computer. I would rather have it done automatically, rather than do in manually but I’ll do what it takes just to keep my site updated. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
