Server resources used by PP

I’ve been trying to optimize WP backend speed for a client, and PP is now the plugin that uses most of the server resources according to P3 plugin profiler (34%, or ~1 sec).
Is this to be expected, or is there a way to optimize/limit PP burden on the server?
