• Hi i’m trying to log into my admin area of my site, normally I never have any problem when I type in /wp-admin. But today I got a different menu I haven’t seen before:

    ARE YOU HUMAN?
We have detected an increased number of attempts to access this login page. To help us keep this website secure, please let us know that you’re not a robot by entering the text from the captcha below

A short captcha box when I can enter either text or number. Everytime I put in the correct code I get:

It looks like the code you’ve entered is incorrect. Please try again.

So now I can’t log into my admin area. I cleared my browser caches – what next?

    How do I fix this?

  • Do you have FTP access to the site? Rename the plugins folder to disable all of the plugins and try to login. Once you are back in you can rename the folder back to Plugins and sue the plugins panel to reactivate them. There might be a security plugin causing this. Also make sure to clear your browser cache and delete any site cookies.

I deleted all my plugins but that haven’t helped.

what is the URL for the site?

http://www.annanuttall.com – now my pages or posts are not showing.

They are not showing due to deleting the htaccess file. In future just rename files and folders while troubleshooting. We have to find out where the recaptcha is coming from. Is it part of the theme?

Call your hosting company. I found references where shared hosting providers are using this to try to limit attacks on WordPress and Joomla sites.

I can now log into the wp admin area but it completely fucked up. What I’m going to do tonight is back up the past month of blog post and delete the current wp installation and install a new wp. I recently changed host – I used to be on hosting.co.uk now I’m on heart Internet. I might look into getting a reseller or my own server or something.

Problem again, When I was on my work computer I could log in – but now i’m at home I got the captcha page. help. It also doesn’t work on my husband computer.

Please stop deleting things. Its easy to fix once you get back in. The pages will load if you go to Settings>Permalinks and click save. This will create a new htaccess file.

If you can in from work then it shows that your home IP is being blocked. Again I’ll suggest you call the hosting service to regain access from home.

Once you are back in you can reload your plugins and reset the permalinks.

    I haven’t deleted anything.

We are having the same issue, on our case a problem with Heart Internet. Not directed related with WP, but with hosting.

^ Thank you that made me feel a little bit better. I can now log in and I backed up everything. I’m thinking of putting in a new WP installation.

Heart Internet still haven’t got back to me on this.
