Remove the banner 'box'?

You should be able to hide it with some custom CSS. Please try adding the following CSS code in the style.css file of your child theme or if your theme doesn’t have custom CSS tab add it in your site using the following plugin:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css

.banner-wrap {
    display: none;
}

Please let me know how that goes 🙂

Sorry about that, you’re right.

Please try adding this instead:

.frontpage-banner > .container {
    display: none;
}

If you also want to remove the space please try adding this as well:

section.frontpage-banner.parallax_active {
    padding-bottom: 0 !important;
}

Normally I wouldn’t suggest the use of the !important declaration. However, it can sometimes be a necessary evil when over-writing existing styles. You can find more info on the use of important declaration here:
