    Hello MailChimp,

I am contacting you in regards to the MailChimp WordPress plugin. I work for a university within Canada and we are looking to test this plugin for one of our WordPress blogs. I was not able to find an e-mail online of where to contact, so I thought I would write a forum posting. I am wondering if you are able to answer a few security questions below before we are able to move forward with testing:

    1. Does the product collect any personal information about its users?
    a. If so, what information does it collect?

    2. If you do collect any personal information, who has access to it?
    a. Are there any third parties that will have access to personal information, if you collect it?

    3. If you do collect personal information, who owns the information? Does the user own it or does your company own it?

    4. If you do collect personal information, where is it stored? Where is information accessed from?
    a. When and if you store personal information, is the data encrypted when it is stored?
    b. If personal data is collected and stored, do you have any data redundancy policies to ensure data is kept safe if one of your databases is compromised?

    5. What kind of technologies are used to share information across your company? Do you use wireless technologies, is information shared in a closed loop system, or do you use portable devices such as USBs?

If you are able to provide the answers to my questions listed above, that would be great.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Thank you,

    Cassandra

    Hi Cassandra,

Sure thing – let me try to answer your questions the best I can. However, first things first: we are not MailChimp (as in the people behind MailChimp.com). We’re ibericode, a company located in Europe and we built the plugin that connects your WordPress site with your MailChimp account.

You might be better off asking this questions to MailChimp as they’ll be the ones handling and storing data of your visitors, not us.

For us, the answer is pretty simple:

    – We never store any of your visitor data.
    – We don’t track any information about you, as the user of our plugin. However, there is an optional usage tracking feature in the plugin which collects the following anonymous information: https://mc4wp.com/kb/what-is-usage-tracking/ (nothing that can be traced back to you though).
    – If you purchase our Premium plugin then we collect your email address, billing address and IP address as we are legally required to do so (for tax reporting). All sensitive data (like passwords) are encrypted and credit card data never even touches our server, this is all offloaded to Stripe.

Hope that helps. If not, let me know!
