• Hello,

I used the automated WordPress installation. It installed under the htdocs path. When I pull up the website it pulls up under the url. I think I did everything right, but I am having issues uploading my inventory with a plugin.

I contacted my hosting company. They told me to switch the path or create a new ftp for wordpress. I’m left wondering if I did in fact WordPress correctly. The site seems to be working properly, but I cannot upload the inventory without getting signed out.

Is there a reason I should need to do this in order to upload inventory through a plugin?

  • By “upload the inventory”, what exactly do you mean?
Is it inventory for a store?
And a link to your site would help.

It is an automotive inventory through a store. The plugin/theme Automotive Listing .

I’ve gotten in touch with the theme owner, they claim it is an issue with the hosting. I contacted my host, they claim it is an issue with WordPress. The host at least offered a solution, although I don’t think it makes much sense. Basically they are saying to either create a new FTP for the website to publish everything to ht doc or change the path of the website. I’m honestly not sure if either of those answers are correct since it seems up until this issue with uploading my inventory through the plugin I haven’t had any issues.

If it is a “store inventory”, then you need a store. WordPress is not equiped to work as a store, but Woocommerce is. WooCommerce is a free eCommerce toolkit for WordPress.

Automotive Listing is a commercial theme, and if you plan to use this with Woocommerce (…it says that it is fully compatible with Woocommerce), then you need to contact their support in order to sort this and Woocommerce out.
This theme also comes with a “CSV / XML File Import – includes an importer with automatic delimiter detection”.

Know that, if you plan to sell and ship, you will need an SSL certificate. This makes your site a “secure site” – https – (…the little padlock icon on the left side of the address bar) Contact your host concerning this.

This isn’t a matter of setting up a store inventory. It is just a matter of posting the inventory onto the webpage.

    I have posted the inventory:

    http://crescenttrucks.com/commercial-vehicles-2/

The problem is that I can only import 6 to 7 vehicles at a time. I’m just trying to figure out how to import the entire inventory at once. At this point I get a server error anytime I try to import the entire inventory. I’ve tried to switch max execution time and increased memory limit, but that did not appear to make any difference.

After those steps I contacted Automotive Listing who told me to contact my host. The host at this point has told me try to get help from WordPress- cox communication seems to be adamant about NOT helping anyone using WordPress.

The hosting told me to switch the path or create a new ftp for wordpress. I’m left wondering if I did in fact install WordPress correctly. The site seems to be working properly, but I cannot upload the full inventory without getting timed out.

I’m seriously considering changing hosts, but I just want to make sure that this isn’t an issue that cannot be resolved somehow without doing that.

Most hosts have an upload limit so as not to overtax the servers: https://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#Before_Importing
Try this plugin: Import any XML or CSV File to WordPress
