• I have a problem here and was wondering if someone can help me.
I’m changing hosting companies for my website and I setup the hosting for my new site and went into cPanel and installed WordPress for the new site to go on. I then tried to login to WordPress wp-admin on the new site but it keeps on redirecting me. I think to my original website WordPress wp-admin because it’s the same domain name but different wp-admin logins. I still have the old website running until I get this new one up and running but can’t login to finish it. I tried my domain name with www. And without it and it still redirected me or said ERROR: The username or password you entered is incorrect. But I copied and pasted me login info right from my email I got from WordPress so it should be right.
I tried to clear my cookies to and that did not help.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • A domain name only points to one web hosting company at any given time. And it takes up to 72 hours to be moved.

In your case, it obviously still points to your old web hosting company.

You will need to get an alternate URL from your new web hosting company to access your WordPress site on your new web hosting company. And you will have to change your Site URL and WordPress URL in WordPress Admin panel General Settings to match that alternate URL.

Once you have it working the way you want, then you have to change where your domain name points, usually known as “Name Servers”. That is done with your Domain Name Registrar.

What I’m trying to do is clone my website and put it in my new hosting but I can’t login to my wp-admin to finish it. What if I when it to my new hosting and added an extra letter to my domain name so it was different and then reinstalled wordpress with that domain name with the extra letter could I then login to wp-admin and work on it

Domain names have to be registered with a Domain Name Registrar, at a cost of $10-$20 per year on average, before they work, and then you can wait up to 72 hours for that to happen.

As I say, talk to your new web hosting company as they will have a way (a lengthy URL) for you to access your web site before your domain’s Name Servers are changed at your Domain Registrar’s, to point to your new web hosting.
