Can't Remove Multiple Inactive Widgets
-
On certain pages in my client’s website there are multiple inactive widgets. So many that the page freezes up before I can scroll down to the bottom of them and click on the “Remove Inactive Widgets” button. Is there any other way to get rid of them?

Do you have acces to the accounts cPanel or do you have a FTP Client such as Filezilla?
I have access to both the cPanel as well as through FTP.
Through FTP, go to wp-content > plugins and delete the inactive plugins – right-click on plugin directory (folder) and choose “delete”
I don’t think that will help. It’s multiple text widgets appearing in the Page Widgets area below the content editing window that are causing this. Not a specific plugin.
I can delete the Page Widgets plugin, but I need that for other active widgets that are being used on the pages.
If you are in the Widgets section and the inactive widgets are under the Inactive Widgets part, did you try expanding each one at a time and pressing the “Delete” link inside?
I’m not able to because the page freezes up before I can manually delete any of them.
Then your only choice is to delete the plugin through cPanel or FTP and then reinstall it again, checking to make sure that it is compatible with the latest version of WordPress and has been updated recently.
Yeah, I think you’re right. That’s likely the only thing that will work. Unfortunately that means I will need to go back and set-up all the widgets that are being used on all the pages.
A small price to pay for a working site. Just make note of the widgets you need and their settings, and it will be an easy job to reinstate the widgets anew.
