Search display not working

    I am trying to use the wordpress search options and when I try searching on my site, it redirects me to my homepage. Based on my research I think there is an issue with search.php (that controls the search results page, correct?) Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

    to rule out any theme/plugin issue, try:

    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
