Installing WordPress alongside existing site
-
Greetings, all! I have a very easy question for you, but the answer so far has eluded me, even though I’ve read the WordPress FAQ and searched the forums (I guess I don’t know the right terms? I’m very new at this).
Context: I would like to use WordPress to create an e-commerce page for a very old website (the old site is just a bunch of HTML and CSS files) hosted on GoDaddy (I mention this because GoDaddy has a WordPress installation option, but I don’t know how customizable it is or whether or not it would overwrite the existing webpage if I utilize it).
Ideally, I would LIKE to install WordPress alongside the old site and link from the old site to the WordPress store without replacing the old site or mapping its content to WordPress (normally, I would just map the content to WordPress and have done with it, but there are several very good reasons to do otherwise in this case). In other words, I would hope that connecting to the existing URL would take you to the old site; a hyperlink on the old site would then take you to site/store (which would be run by WordPress).
Can this be done, and if so, how? Do I simply have to specify a different directory URL for the WordPress site?
Thanks in advance!
