• Hello all! First time user and poster here. Please be gentle. 🙂

I am trying to embed a video from Vimeo using Vimeo’s embed code. On this particular project, the administrator is insisting that we use Cornerstone for our post creation. We are also using templates that the same admin has created for us.

    The site is http://tulane.ccproject.com

So, when I insert Vimeo’s embed code in the text element box, everything seems fine. The video player appears and I can play the video in Cornerstone. When I save and view the post, or even if I just try to preview the post, the embedded video is gone and has been replaced by a hyperlink to the video on Vimeo’s website. When I go back to editing in Cornerstone I can see that some of the embed code is gone.

Here is the embed code I get from Vimeo:

    <iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/147890144" width="500" height="282" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe> <p><a href="https://vimeo.com/147890144">ICU Toxicology</a> from <a href="https://vimeo.com/user46498255">David Maag</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>

Here is what I see when I go back to editing the post and examine the code:

    <p><a href="https://vimeo.com/147890144">ICU Toxicology</a> from <a href="https://vimeo.com/user46498255">David Maag</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>

Any help would be appreciated. I am getting a backlog of content waiting to be posted.

  • What happens if you just paste the URL to the video in the post? Put https://player.vimeo.com/video/148360438 into your visual editor and see if it displays then.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I’ve tried that. I just get a hyperlink. No embedded video.

Have you tried disabling plugins to see if a plugin is causing this to not embed properly?

Are you talking about plugins in WordPress?

I only have one plugin enabled in WordPress; “Custom Login Page Customizer”.

I disabled “Custom Login Page Customizer” and nothing changed. Still not getting an embedded video.

It could be your theme that is causing this. You could try switching over to the Twenty Fifteen or Twenty Sixteen theme for now to see if you can embed videos in them.

What version of WordPress are you using? 4.4, 4.3.1, or something else?
Also, does it work to embed other things, like a Tweet or YouTube video?

Matthew, I am using WordPress through the web (using chrome), which indicates that it is 4.3.1.

I should point out that two other contributors to this project are using the same theme and templates and do not seem to have any issues.

    http://maryland.ccproject.com
    http://penn.ccproject.com

I tried embedding a YouTube video and got different but equally disappointing results. The video is nicely embedded in the post as I am creating it, but as soon as I save and then view the post, there is a white box where the video should be. When I go back to Cornerstone, the code I pasted is not truncated as before, it’s just gone.

I am not going to change the theme as of yet. But I am going to try one of the other templates that was provided for us.

Ok, let me know the result of that.

Well, nevermind that. The other template (there’s only two) is a tabbed post and not practical for what I’m doing.

    …forging ahead…

On this particular project, the administrator

Do you have an administrator that you can contact about this? You could give him access to the site so he can play around and try and fix it. Just a thought 🙂

I can’t think of what else it could be besides a template/theme issue or customization in the theme.

I have already contacted the “guy in charge”. He is aware of the situation. He has access to the site. He is mystified as well.

The only thing that I can think of is that it is your theme. Although it makes no sense then that the other two websites wouldn’t be having the same problem. Are all the websites on the same version of WordPress?

    Matthew:

    I’m sorry, I don’t know for sure.

However, based on his instructional videos, I can tell you that the project leader is using the web UI.

    I FIXED IT!!!

So, my solution was to ignore Cornerstone and simply put [embed]video URL[/embed] in Wordpess’s editor.

    Thanks for your time Matthew.

No problem. Glad you were able to resolve the issue.
