Product variations not updating

The problem:

We have about 1200 variations of the product. The variables are different types of vehicles and include color, make, model, and year. When a user selects a specific make (Ford) the select inputs should only include variations that have that make. But they do not. The result being that users can select makes and models that don’t exist (Ford Aztec). With the amount of variables we are working with, this means there are a vast number of combinations that don’t work.

Things I’ve tried:

• Disabled all other plugins.
• Deleted the product and started from scratch.
• Deleted theme templates that had been customized.

Things I’ve tried after much googling:

• Tried playing with ajax threshold a la https://woocommerce.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/improving-the-variations-interface-in-2-4/
• Tried pre 2.4 versions of Woocommerce.
• Set default options for the variations.
• Added in-stock options to the product.

I’m using 2.4.11 with updated templates.
