Local Install issues?

Hello all,

I’m attempting to test-drive WordPress before I purchase server space by installing everything I need on my home machine. I’ve installed Apache, and it seems to work. I then installed PHP, and it works for scripts that I write by hand, but when I attempt to run the wp-install.php file WordPress tells me that the version of PHP I have installed doesn’t include MySQL. I did install MySQL on my machine too. Can anyone give me a detailed step-by-step on how to make this work on a local machine? Much appreciation for any help-
