• I’m just getting started with WordPress and although I have designed about half a dozen pages, a menu, and a blog, I would like to make this theme active while still being able to test out some other themes.

My site address (General => Settings) currently looks like:

    http://mydomainname.com/wordpress

But I’ve been told that when I’m ready to publish my site I can change that to simply:

    http://mydomainname.com/

If I do that, can I then continue to play/work in this workspace:

    http://mydomainname.com/wordpress

and change themes or add pages? If not, how do I go about that?

  • To do what you’ve said first you would have to place a fresh installation of wordpress in the root directory of your site. then migrate or clone your existing site over to the new installation. the easiest way to do this is with a plugin called “wp Clone” which you would install on both installations and then follow the instruction to copy the site over. Then you would change the urls as you stated and then you can play around with your first site.
