auto-generated password from install does not work

I have used wordpress before, but in a server switch, my hosting company accidentally lost everything.

I first attempted to upgrade to 2.3, but since the database had been lost, that didn’t work, so I created a fresh database and attempted to install from scratch.

The password I was given upon installing did not work (“ERROR: Incorrect password”). I have since attempted deleting and recreating the database, reuploading the wordpress files, and even generating a new md5-encoded password and placing manually into the database. Nothing is working.
