While I completely agree with you, this site will never use anything other than bbPress. So perhaps you should make your post here:

@filoveg: First of all let me stat that WordPress is 100% volunteer run. I am a volunteer.
Secondly, us volunteers of more important things to worry about for WordPress (like the core software) then updating the forum to make it look nice.
Thirdly, we are actually working on upgrading the forums. The only thing is that due to lack of volunteers, the process is taking a while.

The reason why we choose bbPress is because it is IOHO the best forum plugin out there. Also bbPress was developed by WordPress, so there is no reason why we wouldn’t use it.
I believe updating its functionality and design a little would be piece of cake and it would mean tremendously for everyone.
What complaints do you have about the forums? What don’t you like about it? We are always open to taking other peoples suggests on how things should be improved.

It is 2015 and this forum seems like it was created in 90s. If it is built with WordPress, I believe updating its functionality and design a little would be piece of cake and it would mean tremendously for everyone.
The forum works. 😉 There are plans to update these forums to a newer version and that is in progress. But it’s a HUGE task and no one really can say when that will happen.

I am aware of that, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t meant to sound like whiny bitch, I was just making a statement that this forum is kinda behind to what modern technology can give us. When I said design, I didn’t meant better colours but better layout.

For me the main thing to change for better would be some notification when a user gets a reply. You know like what Facebook has? It doesnt have to be realtime, nor flashy, but something more clearer. For example in our profile page we can see if there were any replies made after us. As a very basic quickfix solution, if there arent any replies color of text could be gray, but if there is a reply, color could be green, bold etc. Currently it is hard to skim at that page, I literally have to read those words (I am not lazy but…)
Also as a side note, I don’t know if this is related to forum or not… but plugin authors shouldn’t be able to give a review on their own plugins. I have seen some of them giving themselves 5 star and writing something like “Very good plugin for …” xD

i used joomla for more than 7 years – but since December 2013 i am so glad that i found wp
i love the community for its support and powerful sharing of ideas.
the forums here support the idea exchange. If you do some updates to newer forms then i would be lucky.
WordPress has many many user and supporter from all over the globe. we need to have the best forums ever.
