Linking Menu to Front Page Elements

I’m trying to link front page elements to the header menu using the customizer. I added the ID of the element using CSS Classes but nothing would link – got a 404 error page. The only way I could get the link to work was pasting the ID of the element in the actual menu item http address but it won’t scroll to the section – instead it jumps right to it.

Any suggestions?
