I know I can set up the Maps to show the category drop down and users can filter out that way. But I was hoping I could get the map to filter for the category without requiring user input.

I’m making a site for a bottling company, they bottle soda and beer. Their products are available at different store in the area. Some only offer beer, some only offer soda, and some offer both. I would like to be able to display the store locator map on the beer product pages and it only show results for locations that offer beer, and vice versa.

Locations/Posts are already categorized as Soda, Beer, or both, is there a simple way to do this that I’m missing?

  • +1 from me. It would be nice if we could provide an additional parameter to the shortcode saying what categories we wish to restrict that particular map to.

In the example above, on the beer pages you could have a shortcode that looks like

    [wpsl categories="beer"]

    on soda

    [wpsl categories="soda"]

or for a combination, use some sort of delimiter:

    [wpsl categories="beer|soda"]

That approach would solve my immediate problem anyway…

I will add a category attribute to the [wpsl] shortcode in a future version. I just have to finish work on several add-ons first, before I can continue working on improving the plugin itself.
