If this is the element you’re referring to http://screencast.com/t/u1eDUaIcZU, then I’m not really sure what this element is being used for but you should be able to remove it with some custom CSS.

To do so please try adding the following CSS code in the style.css file of your child theme or if your theme doesn’t have custom CSS tab add it in your site using the following plugin:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-custom-css

div.entry-content > pre {
    display: none;
}
