When you turned them off, did you only do it at Settings -> Discussion?
If so, all that does is set the default to disable them for future posts/pages. You have to edit each existing post/page and disable comments there.
To do that, edit the post/page, scroll below the editor, and look for a “Discussion” box where you’ll find the checkboxes to enable/disable comments and pings.
If you don’t see a “Discussion” box below the editor, hit the “Screen Options” tab near the top-right and check “Discussion” to enable the discussion options in the editor.
Alternatively, use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-trackback-disabler/ to do that in bulk.
Yeah, I just read about some of what you said recently. The plugin looks like the quick answer for me. I went ahead, installed, and removed all the trackbacks. Hopefully that will fix it. I’ll see in a few days if I get anymore trackbacks.
