• Hello all,
When new users are signing up on my site they haven’t been receiving their generated password. At first I thought my emails may be going into their spam, but it has been happening too frequently. I never had the problem then all of a sudden it has been happening to all new users. I am having to manually regenerate and resend the registration emails from within s2Member, which is a pain.

Where or how can I diagnose where this problem is originating from?
    Thanks

I am the only one who has had this happen to them???

Do your settings allow users to choose their own password upon registration? If so, then s2member has been modified to prevent these emails from going out. Here’s the pertinent changelog entry:

    v150827
(s2Member/s2Member Pro) WordPress v4.3 Compat./Bug Fix This release of s2Member alters the way New User Notification Emails are sent, and in how they should be formatted in WordPress v4.3+.

The New User Notification Email is now sent (to a user) only if they did not set a Custom Password during their registration; i.e., only if they need this email to set their password for the first time. In short, s2Member now follows the same approach used by WordPress v4.3+.

See: Dashboard → s2Member → General Options → Email Configuration → New User Notification

So the purpose of this particular email has changed just a bit; i.e., the New User Notification Email. Instead of it being sent to every new user, it is only sent to users who need it for the purpose of obtaining a password which grants them access to their account for the first time.

If you’re not allowing users to choose their own password upon registration then I’m wondering which version of s2member you’re using?

Email problems started with WordPress 4.3.0 and fixed with s2member v150827.

The problem occurred again with a change in WordPress 4.3.1, which was subsequently fixed again in s2member v150925.

Regardless of which WordPress version you’re using, v150925 of s2member should have resolved these email issues for all WordPress versions, 4.3.1 and below.

Hello Jumbo, my settings are set to “Send user password setup link after registration”

    My wordpress version is: 4.3.1

    My s2member version is: Version 150925 + s2Member Pro v150925

Still don’t know why it’s doing it. 🙁

Could be a plugin conflict. Another plugin interfering. You’d have to disable them and try it one by one. Or setup a test installation and try to reproduce and isolate the issue. If you have the pro version of s2member, you can submit a support ticket to them.

    Hello!

Tell me, please, you could solve the problem with registration (with password)?

I have the same problem. I deactivate all plugins, but it hasn’t brought results 🙁

    Thank you.

    Hi Tony,
No I haven’t found a solution yet. It seems like every time an update is done to WordPress, you can count on something going wrong. I’ve done some trouble shooting, but being a bootstrap startup and working full time I don’t have the luxury to spend a lot of time trouble shooting. If you do find a solution please let me know. 🙂

Can anyone out there help me with this please.
Here is the latest response from a brand new user.

I just purchased membership and it keeps telling me that the password is wrong and that the captcha is incorrect which it isn’t. Can you please address this?

    here’s another…

Hi there – none of the links work to actually set up a password. When I did the ‘reset password’ button, nothing happens – same log in as before. It never asked me to put in a password. Help.

This is really bad, because new users right at the beginning are frustrated with your site.

Also there is another thing that I hope someone can help me with.
I get tons of fake registrations from bots. I installed the “Stop Spammers Plugin” to hopefully stop this but the really ironic part is it lets the spammers keep spamming and put my legitimate users as spammers. What a pain! Does anyone have a good plugin for this.

    Someone please help me!

As to the bots, have you tried the WP-SpamShield plugin?

As to the registration problem, your previous reply to jumbo — who suggested testing for a plugin conflict — suggested you hadn’t had time. But a conflict remains the most likely cause of your problem.

In fact, it’s very quick to test for: just turn off all other plugins and switch to the 2015 theme. Now test: if the problem disappears, you had a conflict.

What takes the time is identifying the cause: you will have to turn things back on one by one and test each time to identify the culprit.

    Hi KTS915,
I don’t think all my users would be very happy if I started turning things on and off. 🙂 Especially if they are paying for the service.

I realize I could tell them all that there will be maintenance at a certain time, but I find it extremely hard to believe that no one out there has an idea on where I could start to pinpoint this problem.

No-one is expecting you to troubleshoot a live site.

You need to set up a clone and do all your troubleshooting there. You shouldn’t even be installing updates on a live site without testing on a clone first.

Do you have standard wp-login.php or you change this page?

    Hi Guys,
I have the standard wp-login.php I haven’t changed anything on it.

I installed a clone site years ago, I think on Eclipse but its been so long I can’t remember.

    HI KTS915,
Does the WP-SpamShield work well? I am willing to try anything. I get tons of spam user signups a day.

Just create a new clone. There are plenty of plugins that do it all for you. I have had excellent results with All-in-One WP Migration.

As for WP-SpamShield, I don’t know. My host seems to intercept virtually all spammers. But WP-SpamShield does claim to work with s2Member, and it has very good ratings from users.

Moe Joe, I recently installed WP-SpamShield over at http://s2member.net for the new community forum, and it seems to be blocking spam registrations correctly so far. 🙂
