• Good Morning (PST)

My name is Dave, and I am a new Web Assistant for the online news site http://www.btlnews.com . Recently, I updated their WordPress build to 4.3.1 on the 28th of September. According to the main editor and contributors throughout the site, everything was functional and running fine until some time this morning.

Now, people are unable to login to the site at all, including me. Before updating, I made sure to backup the site via the UpDraft Backup plugin. The backup was successful, and the senior web developer was able to relocate it this morning in an attempt to remedy the issue at hand, which will be described in detail below.

When ever we go to log in with our previous information, the page simply resets and asks us to do it again. The only thing that has seemed to change with these new login attempts is the inclusion of a mathematical problem on the bottom to prove we are indeed “human”. I’ve already reset my password a total of THREE times to try and figure out what’s happening.

There are other issues with the site design and a somewhat “re-ordering” of the posts and the structure of the site that I personally have no idea what happened to. However, I figure I’ll try to deal with that once the staff and myself are able to log back into the site.

I could really use any and all help. This is a longstanding web site with a fairly consistent user base that I hate to see go through this type of thing.

Thank you for your time and considerations.

I don’t know if this will help add more information to my problem, but I also just noticed this:

when I try to login via the traditional http://www.btlnews.com/wp-admin page, instead, It loads this url: http://www.btlnews.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.btlnews.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

Something’s not right. Could we have been compromised?

try this, go to the login page and before hitting enter, edit the url and remove everything after ‘http://www.btlnews.com/wp-login.php’ and see what happens

    Nothing.

It literally just resets the page every time.

I am having login problems. Please help me out.

It has been two days and whenever I try to open nepalihostfamily.net/wp-login

It asks for authorization username and password. Even I supply correct username and password. It resets or does not let me in. The following message is displayed saying 401 error.

    Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.

    Hello,

I went to the page -> nepalihostfamily.net/wp-admin and I notice that you have an authorization pop-up window.
I can say with certainty that this is not a WordPress pop-up, but appears that someone on the server has set that page to password protected.
You can ONLY resolve this on the server-side settings.
Also, the username and password the authorization window is asking for is most likely very different from the WordPress login, thus why you can not get in.

    Thanks,
    Jordan Q

Anyone else coming across this error?

I’m not even receiving a 404 error like the user that’s posted above

@nepalihostfamily – please open a seperath thread to keep from confusing the OP’s original issue

@davenotti – I would suggest using FTP or your cpanel’s File Manager and look in the wp-content/plugins folder to see if there is a login plugin and I’d move it out of the plugins folder temporarily and try again.

Yes, I am having the same problem with all my WP sites…all but one of which I have not been into in months…but were automatically updated to the new version when it came out.

I tried to figure out what the problem was, but couldn’t so I set up a new site, downloaded a fresh .zip of the new WP 4.3.1 software and uploaded it and set up the site.

The site page comes up fine, but when I try to log into the wp-admin section, I get a blank page and this URL instead:-

    http://webnewsfeed.com/WNF/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwebnewsfeed.com%2FWNF%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1.

There is something wrong with the new version of WP and it needs to be corrected ASAP….!

I can’t tell you how unhappy I am with this bug..!

@juggledad:- I would suggest using FTP or your cpanel’s File Manager and look in the wp-content/plugins folder to see if there is a login plugin and I’d move it out of the plugins folder temporarily and try again.

I did this as well because I am willing to try anything to correct the problem, but to no avail. It remains the same…can not log into the admin section of any of my over X# of WP websites and I’m not seeing any of the WP gurus coming to our rescue.

@codi727 – Please open a new thread for your issue. FYI I have about 10 sites using WP 4.3.1 with no problems.

So… has this been confirmed a bug with the new 4.3.1 update?

@davenotti – no, like I said I have several sites at 4.3.1 and they all work fine. Did you disable the plugin?

@juggledad:- Please open a new thread for your issue. FYI I have about 10 sites using WP 4.3.1 with no problems.

Why would I open a new thread? This thread was started by @davenotti who is having the same problem as me.

It’s great that your sites are working, but if you can’t solve our problem, why are you posting?

@codi727 – I’m posting because I’m trying to help @davenotti solve his issue. I’ve requested you to open a new thread so your issue doesn’t clutter up the help I’m trying to give @davenotti.

If you wish to subscribe to this thread and see what solution occurs, please do that but it makes it difficult to wade thru multiple people jumping into a thread with their issues – even if they seem to be the same issue.

if you open a new thread, I’ll be happy to advise you in that thread also.

@davenotti – I am experiencing the exact same issue with all of my WP sites. When trying to login with a username and password that I know are correct, the login page simply reloads. I’ve tried all suggested fixes but to no avail. Please let me know if and when you’ve resolved this issue!
