what happens to posts when I delete subcategories

    Honestly, I did look for the answer to this: What happens to the posts in a subcategory if I delete the subcategory? Do they default back to the Genera;” category, or do they default to the next-higher category? I’m hoping the answer is the latter …

    When you delete a category you are told that the posts for that category will be assigned to category xyz (xyz being the ‘Default post category’ you specified in Options->Writing).

    Too bad. I was hoping they would be assigned instead to the parent category.

    Consider making the parent category the ‘Default post category’ for your delete process, then change the default back to the original value after you clean-up.
