  • Hi, towsonpeter, & welcome to the WordPress support forum. Actually, I believe that’s not HTML code you’re referring to, but rather a shortcode. If it’s not on your homepage, then please check your widget section (‘Appearance > Widgets’, likely under a text widget, & see if it might be there. If you find a text widget, (& I do see them), click the link to edit it. You can either edit out the shortcode or delete the widget altogether if it contains nothing else.

If that helps, please mark the topic as resolved so we can go on to help others. If not, however, please let us know, & we’ll continue to see if we can’t help you sort this out.

BTW, thank you *so* much for including a link to your site. It helped us to see what was occurring very very quickly.

Jackie, thank your attempt. I clicked on all of the widgets on the page and none of them contain this shortcode. It’s not appearing on the home page editor and I can’t find where to delete it. Other suggestions?

Hi, again, TowsonPetER. Would you please do me a quick favor? Would you please switch your theme to a default WordPress theme, i.e., 2015–just for a sec–& see if that goes away? Once done, would you let us know, please? O–& please don’t forget to clear your browser cache before looking, as not doing so could yield incorrect results.

    Thanks.

Jackie – I changed the theme to 2011 (2015 not available) and the short code did not appear on the home page. Upon reactivating our custom theme, the short code is still visible on the home page.

I did not build this webpage so I don’t know how we ended up with this custom theme. Can you still help?

TowsonPetER, I believe I can help. Please go to your custom theme folder (wp-content/themes/peter) & open the file called functions.php. I have a feeling you’ll find reference to this shortcode there. I rather suspect deleting that function (actually, you can just comment it out by putting a /* at the beginning of the function name & */ at the end. It’ll probably look something like do_shortcode, & you’ll find your new_royal_slider there.

Once you’ve commented that out, go ahead & clear your browser cache again & have a look. If you’re uncertain, feel free to paste that theme’s functions.php into your next reply, & we can look at it & very likely show you what to comment out.

Jackie, thanks so much for your help. I’m sorry to be such a pain but, where do I find that folder?

Hello again, TowsonPetER. Do you know how to use FTP? Or, if not, do you know how to go to your control panel & access the file manager facility? I really think the functions.php file is where this shortcode is coming from, & that editing that file will fix your problem. Your other choice, of course, if you don’t know how to do this, is to simply change themes. That will definitively give any repeat visitors a wake up call, but that’s ok.

Found the file manager and am in the functions.php file….do not see a reference to that shortcode but am still searching…

FOUND AND FIXED! It was in file front.php.

    THANK YOU!

Excellent! If that resolved your difficulty, could you please mark the topic as resolved so we’ll know you’ve been helped & we know we can now go on to assist others?

I’ve enjoyed working w/you. Good luck w/the clinic.

TowsonPetER, as much as I’d like to say your problems are over, I think they’ve only just begun. In examining the source file of your site to track down that shortcode, I stumbled across some indications of a very recently discovered visitor tracker malware infection. If you don’t know how to deal w/a site compromise, I seriously suggest seeking professional assistance immediately.

I’m sorry. I hate to have to say this. The source of my belief that your site’s been compromised is:
    https://blog.sucuri.net/2015/09/wordpress-malware-active-visitortracker-campaign.html

If you go to your site, then to the view menu of your browser, & thence to source, you’ll see the function visitorTracker_isMob(){ function on line 114.
