If you’re certain you have an excerpt (and I’m pretty sure you have content) and the og:description content is empty, then you have some sort of conflict – perhaps with another plugin or with your theme.
Sorry there isn’t much I can do to help on that case. You could either attempt to resolve the conflict or try a plugin that performs the same function but that does not conflict. Or if it’s your theme at fault, make some changes (probably not the best idea though).

I was having this same issue and discovered there is a conflict with Simple Share Buttons Adder. Disabling that fixed the problem with descriptions.
FYI
Pages don’t have excerpts and my home page is a page. I’m finding it difficult to control what is displayed for the description.
