• I help to manage content on a website but really am not too well versed when it comes to matters of code and site architecture.

About an hour ago, I altered a page (in edit page) so that the template was changed from ‘default template’ to ‘news list template’.

The page had been functioning properly with the ‘default template’, but the page is called ‘news’, so I was curious as to why the default template had been used, and whether the page would still function using the ‘news list template’.

Also, I reasoned that, even if the different template didn’t work, I could revert back to the ‘default template’ with no ill effects.

How wrong I was! The page doesn’t work now, despite being switched to ‘default page template’.

I’m clueless as to why this is. Can somebody please help?

  • What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    Hi Esmi,

It was a custom theme that was built for us by a web design company

In that case, there’s very little we can do to help directly. Ideally, you need to speak to the theme developers about this as it seems like there’s an issue with the news custom page template.

What you could do is temporarily switch to the default 2015 theme, edit the relevant page and copy it’s content into a plain text editor (such as Notepad). Then switch back to the custom theme, delete the broken page and create a new copy.
