    Hi,

Over the last 2-3 days I have still been receiving Wordfence alerts when a problem is encountered on a site (e.g. plugin out of date or user locked out) but have NOT been receiving notifications of Admin logins.

I am using latest WordPress and Wordfence across a couple of different hosts/servers. I have checked WF settings and still have the relevant checkboxes ticked to notify me of logins.

As I said, I seem to receiving other WF alerts/problem emails, and am also receiving notifications from Updraft+ so it doesn’t seem to be a blacklisted mail server or similar.

    Anyone had the same issue?

  • Hi,

Try removing your email address, saving, and then reading your email address. I’ve seen that correct weird sending issues before.

Thanks – I can give that a go – it’s just weird that ‘problem’ emails come through (wordpress or plugins out of date etc) but NOT the ‘admin login’ emails….

No joy on the first site I tried it on.

Removed email address, saved options, re-added email address. Logged out and back in – no notification.

Also tried adding a second email address – repeated but no notification on either address.

Yet the same site happily sent me a ‘wordpress out of date’ problem email for the 4.3.1 upgrade just a few hours ago…

Can you confirm if this still happens in the latest Wordfence version, 6.0.17?It has been working on our test servers in both versions, but there may be something different on your host.

Wordfence does suppress duplicate emails within the same hour, so if you have already just logged in before updating Wordfence, it would be normal not to see a second login notice. (If you have another IP address you could log in from, like on a phone that isn’t connected to your WiFi, that would generate a different message that wouldn’t count as a duplicate.)

Also, do use any other security plugins that might affect the login process? Some of these plugins change the normal WordPress login procedure, so they may be taking over without letting Wordfence finish its own processing.

Yup – am using latest WF, and it’s not an issue with multiple login/duplicate emails.

It seems to be an issue with certain hosts. I’m wondering if they’ve made some tweaks to their outgoing mail filters, that for some reason are trapping the ‘admin login’ emails, but not the ‘problem notification’ emails from Wordfence?
Might have to raise a ticket with one of the hosts and see if they can take a look.

and no – no other security plugins that could affect the login process.

Ok, thanks for confirming the details. I would suspect the outgoing mail is being blocked too, like you mentioned. Maybe another site on the same server was sending spammy emails containing some similar words.

If the host says that it isn’t a mail filtering issue, let us know and we can take a look further.
