Some guidance for adding Recent Post Widget, etc?

    Hello all!
    So I am a total newbie here in terms of php. I assume this is a super easy thing to do so your help will be great!
    I want to add more full width widgets to my site, particularly the ‘Recent Posts’ widget on the demo. I have accessed the site via my server and have the file opened and ready to edit but I am just not sure what way to write the code for:

    register_widget( 'gridsby_Recent_Posts' );
