Hello Julie,
Thank you for your feedback.
Regarding your issue; if you would like to start from scratch the best option is simply to uninstall the plugin and reinstall it. To do so follow this procedure (to ensure the old alerts are also deleted):
1. Go to the plugin’s settings
2. Enable the option “Remove Data on Unistall”
3. Disable and uninstall the plugin. By enabling the option in the previous step the plugin removes the tables from the WordPress database (Where it stores the audit log). More info about the database can be found in the WP Security Audit Log database documentation.
4. Install the plugin again from the WordPress repository.
This should solve your issue. Should you have any further queries do not hesitate to get in touch. In the meantime would appreciate if you can rate WP Security Audit Log.
Thank you and have a great day.

Thanks for the quick response; however, instead of uninstalling the plugin, I would rather think that you would want to make sure that the setting for “Delete alerts older than” works, not just for myself but for all users. How can I get this setting to do what I want it to? Am I not using it correctly? Thanks again!
Hello Julie,
My aim is always to fix any known issues, should there be any. However I told you to do so since you said you would like to start from the beginning.
The alerts pruning options work, as in at the moment there are no known issues. If you have an issue with the pruning, it might be derived from your cron or something else which is specific to your setup. Can you please drop us an email on support@Wpwhitesecurity.com so we can start troubleshooting it?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

I would rather troubleshoot via this forum, if it’s all the same to you. What aspects of my setup do I need to verify to get this setting working correctly? Thanks!
Hello Julie,
I am more than happy to help you via this forum as long as you are fine with disclosing more details about your setup, which I personally do not recommend or do, but it is up to you.
1. To start off with, so to confirm even if you configure the pruning of logs it is not working, correct?
2. From the plugin’s settings, underneath the Security Alerts pruning there should be a message showing up such as “Next Scheduled cleanup in XX mins”. Is it showing?
3. If you click on “Run Manually” do the security alerts get pruned?
4. Do you have any other plugins or processes that use Cron on WordPress? If so are they working?
5. Can you check with your hosting provider if Cron is running?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

1. “Delete alerts older than” doesn’t seem to be working for me. “Keep up to” works.
2. Yes, but it always shows the same thing (4 hours).
3. Yes, if using the “Keep up to” setting.
4. Yes and I think so.
5. I will have to get back to you on that one…
Thanks!
Hello Julie,
Please let us know once you have the responses so we can further troubleshoot this.
Since you said one works but not the other it does not seem to be a cron issue but more a “time” issue. Can you confirm that everything is setup correctly on your server in terms of time, timezone and all?
If the day and date is not correct the behaviour of the “delete alerts older than” might not work as expected.

Sorry, things got a bit hectic for me last week β you know how the end of August is, I assume π I’ll do my best to get back to this in the next few days. Thanks!

Hi again,
Sorry again for the delay! I did check that my settings were correct in the php.ini file and in my Dashboard –> General Settings. However, I decided not to use the plugin for now, so it completely slipped my mind to come back to this thread. My apologies!
I just wanted to say thank you very much for your help with everything. Just so you know, this issue is not the reason I’m no longer using the plugin — I just thought I would have some user activity to monitor, and it turns out I don’t actually have that need at the moment. I will absolutely keep this plugin in mind if the need arises in future π
Cheers!
No worries and thank you for the update. Should you ever need any help from our end, we are here π
