• You know those security things where you have to verify the letters and numbers in an image so spambots can’t pass through?

Is there one of those I could implement for my blog, since I get a lot of spam?

If so, would you mind providing a link? I Googled for a while and couldn’t find anything.

    Thanks.

  • The search term you’d be after is “captcha plugin”. My experience with them has shown that they’re a great way to annoy commenters and get nasty-grams from visually impaired folks. Be sure to get one that handles audio or other non-visual means if you go this route.

You might install and activate Akismet or Spam Karma 2. Then install and activate Bad Behavior.

Thanks. I got Spam Karma and Akismet. Akisment asks me for an API key. It tells me where to find it, but I keep trying to login and it says wrong username. I’m using the same username/pw as I do for WordPress on my blog… any ideas?

I gave you a link in my previous post. Did you try it?

Tip: Read carefully — there’s a big difference between wordpress.COM, wordpress.ORG and your own blog user accounts.

Yeah, like I said, I followed the directions and it’s not there in my profile page. And when it asks me to log in, nothing I type in the form works, not even the account name/pw that I use for my blog.

OK, read it again, until you get it.
You are dealing with 3 different things:
    – your account here, in the forum at wordpress.ORG
    – your own blog
    – your wordpress.COM account

    Don’t mix them!

Ok, not sure if I should have but I just created a new account and got a new API key.

Whatever, WordPress makes things way too confusing.

You make it confusing by not reading carefully. At the link HandySolo gave you TWICE it says clearly”:
    How do I get one?

When you sign up for a WordPress.com account we will email you an API key
