Multisite WordPress directory failure

Hi, we do a multisite (for our offices in other countries) and also keep WordPress in its own subdirectory so that updates can be managed/maintained as git submodules.

This has worked in the past but now it’s not putting the /wordpress/ in the path when going to WP Admin pages.

I followed the directions in the codex, for both, but realize those may not be relevant to this version. Has something changed?
