phpMyAdmin Changes not reflected on browsers

    Hey everyone. I have a weird problem.

    I did some changes in my phpMyAdmin in 2 databases for my website. The changes are reflected in the browser I use (which has cache disabled by the way).

    But on ALL other browsers like Chrome, Firefox (different FF profiles), Internet Explorer no change is reflected.

    I thought it must be the browser caches/cookies first, so I cleared them and nothing. Then I tried Internet Explorer, which I have never used to access this particular website with before, and no changes are reflected.

    So then I made a change in some footer text to test the other browsers. At refresh the text didn’t change. After cleaning cache the changes show. But those database changes I made still wont’ show!!

    So now I’m baffled…

    If the database changes didn’t work, then they wouldn’t be showing in my main Firefox browser that I use either, but they are shown there…

    I tried clearing site cache with WP Cache, tried disabling WP Cache plugin, tried deactivating and reactivating theme, and Nothing! I even opened my other lap top and tried accessing the site, and the database phpMyAdmin changes are not reflected.

    Why? How? Can anyone thing of anything that makes sense? Does phpMyAdmin have its own caching thing?

    My site’s hosted with Hostgator and is wordpress-based.

    So I’ve narrowed down the problem.

    If I’m logged into the site (admin, user, anything) the changes show.

    If I’m not logged in, then the changes won’t show.

    Okay, making progress now because at least I know exactly what the problem is. Now, how is that possible?

    Well, now everything works again.

    It’s not anything I did to fix it actually. Well, here’s what happened.

    It wasn’t working, as I mentioned above. So I thought to see if I publish a new blog post I can see that at least. So I publish a new blog post, and I check it when logged in and when not logged in, and I can see it.

    So I thought to myself, great, now I’ve narrowed the problem down even more. So at least the blog area of the site is not affected. Next thing I refresh a page from those where information could not previously be seen, and suddenly everything is visible.

    After that I tried checking a few different pages on a few different browsers, and on both my lap tops. I created a new user account, did some comments with it. Checked everything again, and everything’s showing perfectly fine.

    Then I went an re-activated all the plugins I had deactivated previously, and tested everything yet again. It all works!

    So, one of two things happened. One is that it simply got resolved on its own. I find that highly unlikely, but there you go. The other, which I believe is true, is that publishing that blog post did something to solve the problem.

    How would that be possible? I have no idea. I mean, I have no logical suspicion as to what happened here. But the problem is solved, and here you have the story of what happened. In the future if anyone has a similar problem as me, try publishing a new blog post and see if that solves it…

    Well, now I have the same problem again. Jesus christ…

    Okay, damn, publishing a new blog post again solved everything.

    So okay. Come on guys, someone here must be able to figure it out. I’m not very experienced with code and databases and wordpress.

    So after hours of working on this, I figured it out.

    The goddamn theme is wired that way. That’s how it normally functions.

    Horrible. Just horrible. I don’t have the knowledge or the funds to fix this now, so I’ll keep going and I’ll note this down to fix in the future when and if the site starts making money.

    I’m still not 100% sure if it’s a problem with the theme or if it’s a wordpress thing. I believe it’s a theme issue, but I can’t be sure.

    Anyway. That’s it!

    Just in case it’s of interest, exactly the same thing just happened to me, with a theme originally based on twenty-ten. You just need to update a WP page or post and your db changes are reflected, until then, zilch.
