I’ve just installed wordpress
Where, and what registered domain name does it have or depend upon?
and filled in my site name slaythatdragon.
If you are talking about “Site Title” at Dashboard > Settings > General, that can be anything at all.
I created the blog first online, then installed wordpress.
Are you saying you have a working site at some host other than wordpress.com and have now added a sub-domain for WordPress with ‘slaythatdragon’ as its Site Title?
What I want to do is adjust the html files of my existing blog…link my existing blog to the wordpress I’ve installed…
You can add a link to anywhere from anywhere, but I know nothing about converting HTML pages to WordPress pages.
Ahh OK, I’ve just realised that WordPress .org and .com are seperate entities.
Sorry, what do you mean by where? The site title I filled in was “slaythatdragon”. When I go into localhost/wordpress , “slaythatdragon” is the name of the site, so I figure that’s the domain.
To clarify my original question, I have a blog created on wordpress.com “https://slaythatdragon.wordpress.com” that I wanted to customise by altering the html code.
I now realise that .com doesn’t let you alter the html code. So my question: Can I “transfer” my blog on .com onto .org?
Thanks very much,
Iain
Sorry, what do you mean by where?
When I go into localhost/wordpress , “slaythatdragon” is the name of the site, so I figure that’s the domain.
So then, your local computer is the where, yes? And if so, you do not yet have a domain, just an installation with a Site Title.
Can I “transfer” my blog on .com onto .org?
Not to wordpress.org because wordpress.org does not host any sites. But you can purchase hosting and a domain name somewhere (or even separately), then install what is called “a self-hosted (non-wordpress.com) site”…
https://wordpress.org/hosting/
I know virtually nothing about how to actually transfer or migrate from wordpress.com to self-hosted, but that can be done:

Ahh OK, I understand.
Thank you very much for your help 🙂
It took me about two months to finally understand, and you have done that in a couple of hours!
Congrats, and enjoy.
Please also understand out-of-the-box WordPress needs to be secured where wordpress.com silently does that for you. So just as soon as you get an installation working as a self-hosted site, my personal recommendation is BulletProof Security.
