• Hi,

Apologies, this is the first site I’ve stood up using WordPress. I used a prebuilt theme and have had quite a learning curve. Now I need to start polishing. I need to post up YouTube videos into the site, and I can embed them into posts, but when I do, I get the page title, followed by a huge gap, then the video. I;ve followed every piece of advice I can find about embeds, and resizing the video – all I’ve achieved is a huge gap and a tiny video window at the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas? Is it the theme that’s doing it? If so, where do I need to look to correct. Example page:

    Many thanks in advance!

    Steve

    >maybe your theme is expecting you to add a featured image to the post which would be displayed in the “blank space”

    which theme are you using?

Oh man – you are of course completely right, and thus an utter genius.

Problem 1 solved….now….if I were to not WANT to put in a featured image on selected posts….would there be a cunning way of doing that?

thanks again – so obvious now I’ve tried it :/

not sure if your theme might have the option for featured image display on/off in theme options

otherwise, removing the featured image from single post will require some changes to a theme template file.
before making any theme file changes, be sure you have a child theme in place.
i don’t know the theme you are using so I have no good way to recommend exactly which file might need to be changed.
in some themes that I use the place to change might be needed in my child theme single.php or loop-single.php….but each theme can be different.

Please do not make changes directly to your parent theme files.
