I’m looking to change the language in this plugin slightly to allow students to post questions they have so we can answer them together as a class. Basically I want to change the word “idea” to “inquiry” throughout the plugin, and change some of the prompts and ratings.

I don’t want to hack the plugin and end up having to continually make these changes whenever the plugin is updated.

Is it possible to do this in the same manner as I can change labels in BuddyPress, by creating a language file? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

I can’t seem to find any documentation on how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is that what something like this could do for me, if I forked it and changed the theme from talks. It looks more extensive than I would need.

Ah! Yeah good catch. I think you can almost replace everything in this plugin 🙂

The wc-talk thing is basically a wp-idea-stream-custom.php (see https://github.com/imath/wp-idea-stream/wiki/wp-idea-stream-custom.php) file that will transform the plugin to manage talks for WordCamps 🙂

I think you’ll need branch 2.2.0 of the plugin https://github.com/imath/wp-idea-stream/tree/2.2.0

I plan to update the plugin soon though 🙂

So would the process be the same as it is for BuddyPress?

Can I drop something like wp-idea-stream-en_EN.mo in wp-content/languages/plugins?

I’m struggling to get it to work. Perhaps I need to register it somehow in a way that BP has already taken care of?

Absolutely. I think you can also put it in wp-content/languages/wp-idea-stream
