Line breaks……….. so frustrated.

    Why does WordPress insist on making my life so difficult?

    I just want my text to appear exactly as I’m typing it.

    With spaces.

    Spaces and breaks are absolutely vital to effective communication. It allows us to break up thoughts and even emphasize points which would otherwise be lost.

    Why can’t I edit text in WordPress, a program which proclaims itself as the best blogging tool, and have it not look like crap?

    Let’s use this as an example: http://www.aspect.gs/main/2015/07/11/who-needs-professionals/

    I can clearly state, after publishing that, that WordPress is not WYSIWYG because if it was, that entry would look very much like what I’m typing here and would be exactly as I intend it. It wouldn’t look like crap.

    How do I fix this?

    I’ve installed TinyMCE Advanced and it doesn’t seem to be accomplishing exactly what I want it to do. I’m growing increasingly frustrated searching for solutions that I shouldn’t have to search for. 🙁

    The way text is ultimately displayed is often linked directly to the styles defined in the active theme. If you temporarily switch to the default – or any other – WordPress theme, does the text display any closer to what you would expect, or at least differently than it does with the current theme?

    Sigh. This is even more frustrating. It’s somewhere in the theme. I’ve spent so much time to get to this point. 🙁

    I’ll have to reach out to the guy that made it.

    What should I do with that to get it to stop ignoring my line breaks? I’m beyond frustrated with this. This whole site is killing me right now because of this.

    If the theme has a user custom css section (preferred method if available) you can try putting this in the custom css

    p + p {
    margin-top: 1.5em;
}

    If not, you could try commenting it out in the style.css file.

    /* p + p {
     margin-top: -1.5em;
} */

    But, if you edit the file directly, when you update the theme, your changes may be overwritten. Check with the theme vendor to see if a child theme might be optional to prevent that.

    Or, you might try a custom css plugin to avoid editing your style sheet directly, or the need to create a child theme. https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=custom+css

    You’re welcome! I’m glad that did the trick. Keep an eye out for a while for any unexpected side effects… You never know!
