I agree that adding classes as a shortcode option would be useful and I’ll add it to our items to consider including in a future release.

This has unfortunately not made it into a scheduled release yet. It’s not particularly challenging to develop, but there are just a number of higher priority items. The one taking the most time is adding support for MS Office file thumbnail generation (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/notice-google-drive-viewer-not-working). Until that is done, DG development time will likely be limited.

I only asked as I added the plugin to a new site that I’m developing yesterday and would have liked this feature as it will need a number of different gallery styles but I can still use a div wrapper to achieve the same result.
Having MS Office Thumbnails is definitely a higher priority!
