• Hi,

I’m in the process of “cleaning” up my site.

I’d like to erase some of the old images: if I look for them in the “Media Library” section, some of them are not present, even if I can reach them using FTP to the directories in wp-contents/upload/.

If they’re not in “Media Library”, is it safe to manually remove them using ftp? Is it possible I damage the DB causing inconsistencies or something else?

Many thanks in advance for your precious help.

    Ciao

    A.

I doubt you would damage your database, but you might cause “something else” since the fact something does not appear in the Media Library for whatever reason does not guarantee your site does not still need it. It is at least possible that you have a link somewhere on a page or post that could go to anything anywhere even if it is not visible in the Media Library. One way to possibly check for that is to search your site for the filename. Or if you wish, just temporarily rename the file and then check your site for broken links before deleting it.
