    Hello. I am new to this forum and new to wordpress. I set up my blog at http://blog.robertrees.org and would like to know how I can limit the post that user sees to something like five lines or maybe ten at the most. Currently it shows all three posts that I have in their entirety. I can see in the Options -> Reading page of the admin section that I can set Syndication Feeds to show a summary, but how do I do it with my own site.

    Basically I would just like to show a brief synapsis. If the visitor would like to read the entire post, then he/she can click on it.

    If this is explained somewhere in the help docs, then I am sorry in advance. I have not found it.

    A few factors:

    1. You can set the limit of posts showing on any one page by going to Options – Reading – Blog Pages

    2. To limit the post content – you can either change the code within the index.php and single.php files from <?php the_content(); ?> to <?php the_excerpt(); ?>

    OR

    Use the MORE tag within each post. This will cut the post off at the point where you insert it so that on the front page, only an extract of the post will be showing. The full content will show on the post page itself.

    Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. The MORE tag is exactly what I was looking for. I am absolutely loving this blog, it is very well thought out with great features.
