• I have a wordpress website which I compressed in file manager to a zip thinking that this would be adequate back up for when I changed my host company, and that I could just unzip and it would all work fine. I was in a rushed panic thinking that my former hosting would expire before I could sort things out, and I didn’t research and think I have now given myself a terrible problem.
Anyway, I’m now trying to get my site up live with the new host.
All I have is the .zip file and I’m not having any luck.
I still have my former hosting going and am trying to reinstall the zip file to another domain (my spare one) by using WPClone and uploading the .zip but it comes back with an error reading the zip.
    Can anyone help?
I’d just be happy to retrieve the words from my pages as I have all the images. The website was a very basic few pages…
    Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

If you have still former web hosting running, you can try to take backup again through another plugin or filezilla FTP program. Following is a excellent guide you can follow to move your WordPress website from one host to another host:

I still have my former hosting going and am trying to reinstall the zip file to another domain (my spare one) by using WPClone and uploading the .zip but it comes back with an error reading the zip.

You can contact your Web Hosting provider for this issue, or you can take new backup and then try to restore.

    Thanks,

Do you still have access to your old web host?

Do you have cPanel or Plesk…etc?

What you have is a backup for your files, not MySQL. You need to get your website MySQL before the old host is gone. MySQL is much more important than files.

If you have cPanel, login and goto Backups, click on “Download a Full Website Backup”, then “Generate Backup”.

After 5 minutes, click “Go Back” and download the backup to your computer.

Also, your moving from host to another, and have the same domain? or your moving from host to another and also changing your domain name?
