• Hi! I didn’t have many problems manually installing 3.9.1, but for some reason 4.2.2 is giving me fits. I got a problem the first two attempts when I filled out the form for the wp-config.php. Instead of sending me to admin, it gave me a Parse error message (which I now wish I had copied to show). So I decided to make my own wp-config.php file and upload it to my files. Now when I go to the address of the blog I’m trying to set up, I get a different error, but still can’t get to admin. The error message is: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in /homepages/15/d531354473/htdocs/iso1/wp-includes/option.php on line 1081

I’m still fairly new to this so… HELP!

using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides, try uploading a fresh copy of /wp-includes/option.php file from a fresh download of WP.

I know nothing about programmimg etc but am helping with my club’s website which is wordpress. It wants to update to 4.2.2 but won’t do it automatically or manually. I get the following error message: Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-4.2.2-no-content.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Could not create directory.

    Installation Failed

Any ideas for a non technical person?

For MANUAL Updating, download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones.

Read the Manual Update directions first
