I installed a plugin which did not do what I wanted and seemed kind of “hinky” so I deactivated it and removed it. After that, I get the following error when I try to go to the Add Plugins page:

An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

I enabled WP_DEBUG and found that its coming from wp-admin/includes/plugin-install.php on line 83. Took a look at that line, and it seems the problem is wp_remote_post errored.

I read some other posts where people had this problem because the site url was blank, but that is not the case for me. Someone fixed the problem by deactivating all plugins but that also didn’t fix it. Additionally, after reactivating my plugins, I can no longer get Jetpack to connect to WordPress.org. I’m sure its related.

So I assume the plugin I removed messed up a setting somewhere, but what and where?

Additionally (likely related) broken link checker is now telling me all links are broken and they’re not.

I’m sorry to say (to future users who encounter this same problem) that I fixed it but I don’t know what the problem was. Restarting the server made everything work again.
