    Hi,

I am trying to create a copy of a site and have installed Duplicator. The site I’m trying to copy is huge (128 gb magazine site) but once I hit a 15mb download I get the 500 Internal Server Error.

I contacted the company who built the initial site and who also host it. They say it could be any of 500 problems and that they backup automatically so if I need to re-install the site they can do it for me. Not the point! But it leaves me stuck. Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to go via the designer/host? I want to move the site away from them onto more accessible hosting. I am capable of using Duplicator, copying and uploading the site to new hosts, but can’t get past the Error.

    Cheers,
    Judy

  • Hey Jude,

Most Budget hosts are not going to allow the plugin to backup that much data. I would create a directory filter on your larger files (normally) wp-content/uploads then create the package and manually move the filtered directories via FTP.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Cory,

I think I found the problem. I couldn’t get over the size of the site, till I found out that the customer had never been given access to a control panel, other than WP, so no ftp. I have a sneaking feeling that the con merchant who did this is using his own space to host all his sites on, but charging a hefty hosting fee.

It leaves me having to confront the previous designer, or somehow try to copy it via WP.

Many thanks for the help, stored in memory for when needed.

    Cheers,
    Judy

Sounds good! Thxs for the update…
