• I can’t get past WordPress “Hello World” screen, pierdesign.ca/wp-login.php takes me to 404 Not Found:

    mysite/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

    Not Found

The requested URL /wp-admin/upgrade.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I followed the WP install guide, ftp all files, create mysql database, update wp-config. Run the install and get WSOD. Call webhost help and they inform me “localhost” is wrong, I need the mysql database name, which works immediately autostarting the WordPress install and setup screens. At completion, the Hello World screen had the admin top bar, but it took me to WSOD, now I can only get Hello World and login error to 404 asking for wp-admin/upgrade.php

My webhost does have an install service, but it is stuck at WordPress 2.6, so suspicious me attempted to do it myself.

I have other WordPress installation running perfectly with Bluehost. When I compare my good installation to broken at different webhost, the file structure is quite different. At top level are database icons mysite (assume this is the mysql I made for installation), and www and public_html which on click both take me to folder “web” where the WordPress installation is. My Bluehost installation has everything in public_html folder. Is this relevant?

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

I can’t get past WordPress “Hello World” screen,

The “Hello world” screen you mention, that is your site!

Your site seems OK at http://pierdesign.ca … And redirects to http://www.pierdesign.ca … not unusual

It appears to me only your /wp-admin/ folder is missing or misplaced.

The folder structure, starting at the folder that contains wp-config.php and on down, should be the same as on bluehost

Here is a good reference regarding the typical file structure, not that it is older and the files are different but the folders should be the same today:

    Good Luck

@macmanx This my second post to topic. Wondering something strange is happening? My profile shows I posted here last (#3 it would have been), before I saw your post, but my other post does not appear?

EDIT: It was after yours, but before I read yours. All OK now mine finally showed up.
