• I am having all sorts of issues. First some background on my system. I am setting up a website at http://pandplandservice.com/ hosted on an Ubuntu 14.04.2 server. I installed WordPress from the repository and things looked okay. I then wanted to install a theme. I tried uploading it and got the “Connection Information” page asking for FTP credentials. So I decided to just drop the theme folder into the “themes” directory. It did not show on the Appearances>Themes in the admin console though. I made sure it wasn’t nested and then set about trying to resolve both the FTP issue and theme in the directory not showing as an option for using on the site. Somewhere along the way something went horribly wrong and now no theme is being applied to the site.
When I check my WordPress version from the admin console it says I have the latest version, but is displaying as 3.8.5.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Okay, I have updated to 4.2.2. Twenty-Fourteen was the theme I was using, an outdated version of twenty-twelve is also there, but no twenty-thirteen. I activated twenty-twelve and the site changed! Then I activated twenty-fourteen and the site changed back! I verified that twenty-thirteen and twenty-fifteen are now in the themes directly, along with my manually added theme, but none of those are showing in the admin panel.

I have disabled anonymous FTP usage and have set the owner of the WordPress directory to be my Apache user.

So, I guess now the question now is: What do I need to do to get the “Connection Information” working? I have been unsuccessful in finding a tutorial detailed enough for me to follow.

I purged and reinstalled the ftp server. Now when I try to update my theme I am asked for my ftp information, I enter user information for a user on the server and get: “An error occurred while updating Twenty Twelve: Could not create directory.”
