Insert content before page title?

Hey guys,
It’s my third day with wordpress, and I’m trying to get this done for few hours now, with no success. I want to keep my header small and simple, and add custom page immages underneath the navmenu instead, with no spacing between. Does anybody know a nice plugin that allows me to do that? I wouldn’t mind changing the theme either, if there’s a free one that allows for many tweaks like this. I also don’t mind hardcoding it, for example making an exception for each page – but I just don’t know how (I can get the coding done, just don’t know wordpress at all).
