Pages and Permalinks

I am looking at creating some pages, and with my permalinks set to ‘Post Name’ that makes the address http://mysite.com/page-name. That is simple and straight forward.

However I am looking at creating my own plugin which will have some shortcode that is initiated by the page, I am looking to pass some GET variables to that code. So my question is, how would I get those via a permalink address? Do I need to customize it? Would something like ‘http://mysite.com/page-name/variable/value’ work?
