404 Error Page after says missing wp-comments-post.php page
-
Hello,
I have an issue on all my websites I have created and updated to WordPress 4.2.2. When people try to submit a comment without being logged in they get a 404 error (page missing) on the wp-comment-post.php page. The page exists on the server, I have tried to update permalink to another structure and nothing has worked. Is this an issue with wordpress 4.2.2? Thats the only update I have made to all my websites in wordpress (all for clients).
I’m at a loss……

When people try to submit a comment without being logged in they get a 404 error (page missing) on the wp-comment-post.php page.
If they are logged in, do they still get 404?
In other words are you requiring people to be logged in to comment?
Have you tried:
- flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
- deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. If you can’t log in to change themes, you can remove the theme folders via FTP so the only one is
twentyfifteen. That will force your site to use it.
hello,
If a person is logged in the do not get this error. The page “wp-comments-post.php” exists on my server and all other websites I have created. This just started happening when I upgraded to 4.2.2 on all these sites. coincidence? You guys also have errors on your “post comment” button disappearing but thats another story….
Anyways, I don’t have any caching plugins…..
Deactivating all my plugins did not work…….
Switching to 2015 is a pain and it did not work…….
Is this maybe an error on wordpress end since it is happening on 5 websites I have created with all different themes????? There has to be a reason they are all giving me an error on the same exact page after I did the 4.2.2 upgrade…..just saying.
thanks.
If a person is logged in the do not get this error.
In your dashborad setting, are you requiring people to be loggedin for posting comment?
No I am not requiring people to be logged in. is this this setting:
Users must be registered and logged in to comment?
I do not have that checked. It is curious that this is happening on all the sites that I have created and updated to 4.2.2. That is the only change that I have made recently. Like I said before, on all my clients sites I do not require people be logged in and I am running ALL different themes on them.
the website I do own and operate is helmsbrewingco.com and jackierdesign.com.
Your quick responses are much appreciated as I may lose clients over this.
It is curious that this is happening on all the sites that I have created and updated to 4.2.2.
What was the previous version that you updated 4.2.2 ?
The previous version was the version before 4.2.2……so 4.2.1? You tell me…..
So let me describe this again. When people try to submit a comment and they are not logged in (which is not required) they get a 404 page error when they get taken to “wp-comments-post.php”. If you happen to be logged in (like the admin on the website, this does not happen). This is happening on every website on my server which I have created in WordPress for various clients (8 websites). Each website has a completely different theme and it’s only happening on THAT exact page. That to me is not a coincidence and not a plugin issue (and I can’t begin to test every plugin on 8 websites to troubleshoot).
Your help is appreciated and if you don’t know, please give me a number to call or turn over to someone who does know.
Thanks
Hello?
You can go to these blogs that I have created (for real clients with all different wp themes) and see the error when you try to submit a comment:
http://www.helmsbrewingco.com/helms-brew-master-blog-low-tide-blonde/
http://mollyhainesmckay.com/2015/03/03/welcome/
http://jackierdesign.com/welcome-to-jr-design/
And that is just a handful of websites designed by me.
Now please tell me that this is not a plugin issue and that the newest rollout of WordPress is the issue. I cannot begin to test ALL the plugins on every website I have ever created for a client to narrow down the error. the error is that wordpress claims the file “wp-comments-post.php” does not exist on my or any of these servers. why?????
thank you in advance.
Try:
– try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin . Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder (if you have created such folder). The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
– If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
– running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
– If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.Hello,
None of the steps above worked. This is extremely frustrating because this is HAPPENING ON ALL the websites I have ever created. You are telling me I am the only one this is happening to? I am at a loss for words.
Please give me a number to call or someone to talk to that knows programming and can help me pin point a programming error.
thanks

I am sorry you having this issue.
These forums are staffed with volunteers. So, there is no number to be called.
However, if you can’t do the work yourself, you have the option of engaging a professional to assist you to fix it correctly. If you want to follow that option and hire someone for this, try one of these sites: http://jobs.wordpress.net/
or

thanks
JLRuiz1717: I just suffered from the same problem. My solution may not work for you, but it’s one more place to look.
Any chance you used a test comment, copied and pasted from one blog to another?
Somehow, one of my comments on my own site failed. I copied the comment to a text editor and went through various gyrations trying to make it work. Fail fail fail.
But only when I copy/pasted that comment. Other comments worked fine.
I retyped the comment instead of pasting it, and all went well.
Call it invisible elves or a hidden character in my comment caused by an errant keystroke while typing my comment (you have NO IDEA how I can fat-finger this keyboard) but my problem was all about that single comment.
After 21 years, web coding can still make me crazy. I don’t cry about it as much these days, though, so I’m making progress. (Mocking me, not you. I get severely frustrated when stuff should work and it doesn’t.)
