Thanks for the suggestion! While I have considered the idea, there are at least 2 seemingly good options out there already (in no particular order):
From their description pages it appears that both plugins offer similar features than WPP’s, so you might want to check them out.
If there’s at least one feature from WPP than none of them have, please let me know and I might think about building a new plugin 🙂
Recent Posts Widget doesn’t create thumbnails for me and the default text and CSS looks like crap. Flexible posts widget won’t create a custom thumbnail size.
I would happily pay you to create the plugin if it won’t be too time consuming for you. Your popular posts plugin looks nice, clean and just works out of the box 🙂
Well, generally speaking I’m quite busy (the life of every developer out there) but at first glance such a plugin shouldn’t be too difficult to build since the foundation is already in place (WPP).
However, before making any decisions I’d like to take a closer look at every option available out there. If I find that there might be a good chance to build a plugin capable to compete with the rest, then I just might go for it 🙂

That would be great if you did. I remember another Recent Posts plugin did show thumbnails but didn’t crop them properly like yours does.

Thumbnails aren’t enabled to match the styling of the WPP widget next to it, but it works 🙂
